Zeeco’s Multipoint Steam Assisted flare system has many small burner tips, usually 3.0 or 4.0 inch size, which are each individually steam assisted. This system is for applications where the flare gases are usually very heavy and would require very high steam assist flow rates for smokeless combustion in a single point steam assisted flare. In the MPS flare, the flare gas flow is split into many smaller flames because the efficiency of steam injection, air inspiration, and turbulent combustion is much higher in a smaller flame envelope. Using many smaller-diameter flare tips significantly reduces the total amount of steam required for very high smokeless flow rates.
MPS advantages include:
- Gases that would normally require a steam-to-hydrocarbon ratio of 0.50 to 0.60 can be burned fully smokeless in an MPS flare system with steam-to-hydrocarbon ratio of 0.20 to 0.25.
- The preferred steam inlet pressure for an MPS system is 75 psig or less.
- A staging system, located at grade, varies the number of burners and steam flow depending on the flare gas flow, ensuring fully smokeless combustion over the entire range of flow with a minimum amount of steam consumption.
